200 Motels

Oktober 1971 in Beverly Hills uraufgeführt.

A Token of His Extreme

Aufgenommen wurde „A Token Of His Extreme“ am 27.

The Dog Breath Variations / Uncle Meat, Montana, Earl Of Duke (George Duke), Florentine Pogen, Stink-Foot, Pygmy Twylyte, Room Service, Inca Roads, Oh No, Son Of Orange County, More Trouble Every Day, A Token Of My Extreme.

Derailroaded

Ubin Twinz Productions / 86 Minutes + Bonus Footage 49 Minutes

Zu seinen Verehrern zählten u.a.

Frank Zappa And The Mothers Of Invention In The 1960s

This film reviews the true story of The Mothers of Invention and the music they made during the first incarnation of the band. With group members Jimmy Carl Black, Bunk Gardner, Don Preston and Art Tripp taking up the tale and revealing - often for the first time - what the real Frank Zappa was all about; and with contributions from 'scenesters 'like LA wildman Kim Fowley, biographer Billy James, Zappa academic Ben Watson, music journalist Richie Unterberger and English writer and musician Alan Clayson - acclaimed biographer of Edgar Varèse - this program is the most detailed, informative and enjoyable documentary on Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention yet to emerge. Also features rare footage of Frank and The Mothers from throughout the 1960s, archive interviews, seldom seen live performances, and a host of other features. Source: Music Video Distributors

Frank Zappa And The Original Mothers Of Invention 1967 - 1969

"This 40 minute film is a small portion of the 14 hours of film footage I shot during the two years that I collaborated with Frank Zappa in the late 60´s on a film we called "Uncle Meat". I had hired Frank to score a 30 second TV commercial I was animating for "Luden´s Cough Drops". We then filmed for 6 months at the Garrick Theater in Greenwich Village where he had a steady gig. This involved into a relationship that took me on tour with the Mothers to London and Amsterdam. Since Frank didn´t see an immidiate end to the filming, I sold him the footage and created this 40 minute psychedelic impressionistic version of ma years with The Original Mothers Of Invention. All the filming was shot without sound which I later scored with Zappa´s music." Ed Seeman

Frank Zappa In His Own Words

ZAPPA SPEAKS, THE WORLD LISTENS
90 MINUTES OF FRANK IN CONVERSATION

Arguably the sharpest tool in the rock musician box, Frank Zappa was never lost for words when presented with another’s opinion andwould counter any position he did not agree with, fluently, eloquently and with the style and wit normally reserved for the great orator orthe finest raconteur. Frank could be funny, serious and just about anywhere in-between and could literally talk for hours without losing asingle member of his audience.

This DVD collects together over 90 minutes of video interviews and talking engagements with or undertaken by Zappa across his career, during which the great man is on form and on the money throughout. Talking on numerous subjects and displaying variously; charm, intelligence, humour and impatience - sometimes all within the same interview - this is Zappa away from the day job but at his fascinating, albeit at times fearsome, best.

Freak Jazz Movie Madness Another Mothers

In August 1969, tothe dismay of many fans, Frank Zappa disbanded the original Mothers of Invention. Feeling constrained by the musical abilities of certain members, he cleaned the slate and set about assembling a new group. Hand-picking superior talent from a variety of musical genres, by 1970 the second incarnation of the band was unleashed. This film focuses on the sophomore Mothers, looking too at the very different projects that book-ended their brief existence; Zappa had incorporated ideas from free jazzand fusion into his music to produce three eccentric albeit influential solo albums.

As the new decade dawned and the musical landscape shifted this prolific but often-overlooked period in Frank Zappa's career remained a pioneering era for a modern day composer who often confounded both audiences and critics, but who refused to compromise.Featuring rare footage, archive and exclusive interviews, contributions from many who worked alongside Zappa during this period, rarely seen photographs, and a number of other features which all at once provide for the first documentary film to tackle this phase in the Zappa legend. Includes new interviews with; George Duke, Aynsley Dunbar, Don Preston, Jeff Simmons, Mark Volman, Max Bennett, Sal Marquez, Ian Underwood plus 200 Motels director Tony Palmer, biographers Ben Watson and Billy James and Mojo Magazine s Mark Paytress.

A Sexy Intellectual Production 2011

Palais Des Sports, Paris, France 11.06.1980 (Early Show)

"Frank Zappa is revered as modern music's greatest innovator, an iconoclast who destroyed music convention with genre-busting funk/blues/ psychedelic/heavy rock arrangements, and incredible live stage shows. As a solo performer, and with his groundbreaking band The Mothers of Invention, Zappa recorded 60 albums and collaborated with Captain Beefheart and the London Symphony Orchestra. Rock and roll's sharpest musical mind and most astute social critic, he was the most prolific composer of his age.

Recorded Live in Paris in 1980, this is a rare recording of Frank Zappa performing at the peak of his career with his incredible backing band, including Ike Willis (guitar/ vocals), Ray White (guitar/vocals), Tommy Mars (keys), Arthur Barrow (bass) and David Logeman (drums). It was the year after Zappa released two of his greatest albums - Sheik Yerbouti, and the masterpiece Joe's Garage - and this cracking live show includes the classic Zappa songs Joe's Garage, Dancing Fool, Bobby Brown and The Illinois Enema Bandit."

The Dub Room Special

Previously released on VHS and Beta and only available through mail order, Frank Zappa’s Dub Room Special is an extremely rare TV special comprising two live performances from one of Rock’s great individuals. Zappa’s unparalleled abilities as a composer, guitarist, and absurdist/social commentator run rampant on The Dub Room Special - and it is a unique window on his willingness to push the envelope of what is possible no matter how improbable.

Selections from two separate concerts, one, called A Token of His Extreme, shot in 1974 at Los Angeles public television station KCET and one in 1981 filmed at his annual New York Halloween show, are interspersed with then-cutting edge claymation/stop motion animation from Bruce Bickford and assorted comedy bits.

Since 1966, Zappa had established himself as perhaps the most fearless musician known to popular music. He incorporated modern classical music, blazing rock and blues and doo wop, guitar solos he called "air sculpture" and an extremely cynical point of view to forge a legacy that remains completely unique 12 years after his death.

This film explores the musical roots of Frank Zappa by putting 'The Freak Out List' under the microscope and tracing the lineage from the most pivotal names therein to the recordings and performancesof the man himself. Featuring rare footage of Zappa and the Mothers plus archive film of Freak Out List artists, exclusive interviews with The Mothers Of Invention's Ian Underwood, Don Preston and George Duke, 1950s Doo Wop legends, The Cadillacs, contributions from Zappa biographers Ben Watson and Greg Russo, Edgar Varese biographer Alan Clayson, experimental modern music historian Professor David Nicholls, soul and R'n'B expert Robert Pruter and many others. Plus rarely seen photographs, news archive, radio spots and a host of other features which all together make for a fascinating, unique and hugely watchable programme)

The Lost Broadcast - The Beat Club '68

This DVD contains a filmed rehearsal of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention at the legendary Beat Club in Bremen, Germany, on 6th October 1968. The music is largely one long improvisatory continuous performance rather than a run-through of their greatest hits, but is punctuated by Zappa directing the band to play the opening themes of some of his more well-known pieces. Thus we are able to experience interesting renditions of King Kong, A Pound for a Brown on the Bus, Sleeping in a Jar and Uncle Meat. Also played was an instrumental version of Let's Make the Water Turn Black, an early example of Prelude to the Afternoon of a Sexually Aroused Gas Mask, a stab at the Prelude to Act 3 of Lohengrin by Richard Wagner and a nod towards Octandre by Edgard Varese.

This rare and fascinating footage is finally available due to the historic importance of the performance. Much of this has never been legitimately released before now. Only the last 35 minutes or so was ever transmitted, which occurred for the first time on German TV channel ARD in October 1970, two years after it was filmed. While there is much footage of Zappa available from his later tours, the early stage of his career, with the original Mothers of Invention, is more sparsely documented than most, naturally enough. With this glimpse into the world of the legendary Frank Zappa and the Mothers filmed in 1968 and at last made commercially available, it s possible to enjoy music being made, in the moment and for its own sake.

The Torture Never Stops

Dies ist die längste Version der drei – die anderen „You Are What You Is“ und „Dumb All Over“ wurden tatsächlich ausgestrahlt.

Jahrhunderts.
